Should a woman take care of her teeth differently during pregnancy?
Dental care during pregnancy is important. Since your new baby will be drawing the necessary nutrients to grow and thrive from you, it is important that you consume a healthy diet and maintain excellent oral care habits. Your doctor will also prescribe prenatal vitamins and sometimes a calcium supplement in order to maintain your health and teeth.

Oral care in particular should remain the same if you are pregnant or not. You should continue to brush and floss regularly while also maintaining any dental appointment you may have for a professional teeth cleaning. This is also a good time to have your dentist take a look at your teeth to be sure that everything is running smoothly. Surprisingly, sometimes woman report teeth breaking during pregnancy or post-partum months and this is often due to calcium deficiencies. Be sure to take any supplements prescribe by both your medical doctor and dentist.

Pregnant women also frequently report have gums that are swollen, bleeding, or more tender than usual. This is often the result of hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy. For this reason, it is essential to maintain excellent oral hygiene during pregnancy. Brushing and flossing should be a daily routine in order to minimize any inflammation of the gums.
